McReynolds Finishes 3rd at the UNOH Battle at the Beach
Daytona Beach, Florida – Overcoming a poor qualifying run that resulted in a starting position deep into the field, Brandon McReynolds and the #16 Napa Auto Parts Toyota Camry gave everyone a glimpse of why many have picked this team to win the 2014 K&N West Series Championship. “This team just never quits,” McReynolds said after the race, “obviously you never want to put yourself in a position where you need to pass eighteen cars to get a victory, however even from over half-way back in the field, I knew that if we could keep cutting into the lead that the frontrunners had on us that we would be in a position in the end to give ourselves a shot at winning.”
After starting in the 19th position, McReynolds masterfully navigated heavy traffic around the three-eighths mile oval, surging into the top 10 by the midway point of the race and taking over second place right before a late race caution. “I felt that if the last ten laps of the race would have stayed green that we had a real opportunity to come out of here with a win,” McReynolds said, “but to even be in that position after the hole that we dug for ourselves in qualifying is an incredible accomplishment.”
The UNOH Battle at the Beach is part of the NASCAR Budweiser Speedweeks, which kicks-off the NASCAR season. Contested along the backstretch of the famed Daytona International Speedway, the race was carried live by Fox Sports 2 and will re-air on Fox Sports 1, Wednesday, February 19 at 5:30 p.m. EST.
McReynolds now sets his sights on the Phoenix International Raceway, which officially marks the start of the 2014 K&N West Series and where he finished fifth. “Phoenix is a place that I have had some past success and where I feel very comfortable. I look forward to building upon the momentum we have gained here tonight and getting out to Phoenix to see if we can bring home a win for our team and our sponsors.”
